ICON 4×4 Hid a Brand-New Silverado 1500 Under a Rusted 1967 C10 Body

Scroll Instagram for any period of time, and you’ll quickly notice there’s no shortage of C10 restomods. We’re talking big wheels, LS swaps, the works. But ICON 4×4 has spent years going a different direction, and instead decided to perfect the art of the Derelict.

Now founder Jonathan Ward has aimed that approach at the 1967 to 1972 C10, one of the cleanest shapes Chevy ever drew. The result is the C Modern Retro Series, and once again, Jonathan and his crew prove why they’re one of the most sought after in the business.

A Restomod Built Backwards

Every example here begins as a brand-new Silverado 1500 4×4, with its V8, four-wheel drive, ABS, airbags, and full towing chops intact. ICON then strips the thing down and reskins it with an authentic C10 body, so what reads as a beat-up farm hauler is mechanically a current Chevy.

Ward is basically asking the question, “What if Chevrolet never abandoned this design and just kept building it through today?” You’re essentially getting that vintage look we all love without a single one of the 50-year-old truck’s reliability headaches.

Derelict or Old School

Buyers can choose between two finishes. The Derelict keeps the donor body’s original weathered paint and rust – definitely our pick of the litter.

The Old School build does the reverse, fully restoring the sheetmetal to factory-fresh for the full time-warp effect. And because five trucks apparently isn’t exclusive enough, one becomes an “Omakase ICON,” where you surrender the entire design to Ward and simply trust the chef.

Cranks That Aren’t Cranks

The cabin is where the sleight of hand really pays off. It holds the vintage silhouette intact (custom-machined aluminum dash panels and all), while still functioning like a 2026 pickup.

Power windows hide behind what look like manual crank handles, the locks run off the new key fob, and a small infotainment screen tucks into the center of the dash. Cruise control, modern climate, real sound deadening, all of it’s dressed up to feel old school.
