Hennessey Rolls Out 1,200-HP Venom Mustang Shelby GT500

While most people would agree that Ford’s 760-hp Mustang Shelby GT500 is plenty potent, Hennessey Performance Engineering founder John Hennessey isn’t most people. Unsatisfied with the GT500’s performance prowess, the famed American marque and tuner has developed a new kit that bestows the modern pony car with genuine supercar levels of power and performance.

Known as the Venom 1200 kit, this upgrade package sees the stock donor’s supercharged 5.2-liter cross plane-crank V8 and its 760hp and 625ft-lbs of torque boosted by nearly 60%, resulting in an output of 1,204hp and 902ft-lbs of torque — at just 7,600rpm and 5,200rpm, respectively. These power figures have been unlocked through the addition of a higher capacity 3.8-liter supercharger, a high-flow induction system, new fuel rails and injectors, and an advanced air/oil separation system. In typical HPE fashion, the world-renowned tuner has thoroughly sweat the details, also opting to upgrade the vehicle with up-specced fittings, anodized billet lines, belts, and tensioners, as well as a recalibrated dual-clutch transmission.

While the upgrade kit includes a serial number plaque and Hennessey and Venom 1200 exterior badging, the Texan tuner is also offering an optional $4,950 livery upgrade with a replica paint job of the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona Livery (seen on the vehicle here). The Venom 1200 Mustang GT500 also benefits from Ford Performance’s optional Carbon Fiber Track Pack which features 20” carbon-fiber wheels shod in stickier Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, as well as a bevy of exposed carbon aero bits. The price of each kit also includes professional installation from HPE, as well as extensive road and dynometer testing.
