In recent year, vintage off-roader nostalgia has become quite an expensive habit. Clean International Scouts and first-gen Broncos pull serious money at auction, restomod builds now run deep into six figures, and even Volkswagen’s revived Scout brand is reportedly asking $60,000 when its electric Traveler finally arrives next year. With all the being said, we were amused that the most affordable entry into the whole boxy, sun-faded aesthetic just landed at Tractor Supply of all places. But, that’s exactly where we’re at. Say hello to the Massimo Mini Truck.
A Scout for the Back Forty
Just a quick glance at this thing, and you’re instantly reminded of the golden age of utility rigs. That flat, squared-off nose and slatted grille feel like the early Broncos, and the upright half-height windshield and exposed roll hoop definitely feel like the beloved Scouts. And can we talk about the pain job? The Sahara Beige with its thin beltline stripe feels straight out of the ’70s.
The whole package spans just 76 inches, and while the styling is pure time capsule, the digital dash, LED lighting, and full turn-signal setup are welcome modern touches.
Nine Horsepower of Honest Fun
Underneath the bodywork sits Massimo’s proven Mini 125 go-kart platform. That means a fuel-injected, air-cooled 125cc single making 9 horsepower through a three-speed semi-automatic transmission (reverse included), good for a top speed of 28 mph.
And rather than sourcing some generic, skateboard-grade hardware, Massimo decided to outfit the vehicle with double A-arms alongside coilovers at all four corners, hydraulic disc brakes with drilled rotors, and 18-inch all-terrain rubber on steel wheels. Rated for riders 16 and up, it seats two on padded, water-resistant buckets and hauls up to 300 pounds.
