Over the summer of 2019, San Jose-based EV startup Drako Motors unveiled what it touted as the world’s most powerful grand touring car. Known as the GTE, this fully-electric $1.25M, 200mph+ supercar put down 1,200hp and an otherworldly 6,491ft-lbs of instantaneous torque. And after successfully bringing the GTE to market, Drako has now applied its state-of-the-art powertrain technology to an all-new all-electric crossover SUV known as the Dragon.
Similar to how Porsche’s Macan borrows heavily from the front-end design of the 911, the Drako Motors Dragon utilizes a hood and headlight arrangement that is plucked straight from the GTE. The Dragon’s ultra-sleek, sculpted bodywork boasts an incredibly slippery drag coefficient and is crafted almost entirely from carbon fiber. The luxury crossover also sports gullwing doors that open to reveal an ultra-plush five-seater cabin that’s loaded with tech and creature comforts and is trimmed in fine European leather.
As much as we thoroughly appreciate the futuristic appearance of Drako Motors’ Dragon, what sets this model apart from other electric SUVs and crossovers on the market is its remarkably advanced powertrain. Using Drako’s DriveOS Quad Motor system, the Dragon packs a state-of-the-art quad-motor setup that generates a whopping 2,000hp — roughly twice that of its closest competitor. Despite having to carry the weight of a crossover SUV — and up to five passengers — the Dragon is still capable of achieving a lightning-fast 0-60mph time of only 1.9 seconds — placing it on par with some of the world’s fastest and most powerful supercars.
Pricing, specs, availability, or a release date have yet to be revealed for the Drako Motors Dragon, though potential buyers can register their interest on the marque’s website.
