With a starting price of around $4,000,000, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is already one of the most exclusive hypercars on the planet. For the French firm’s most discerning customers, however, it offers highly-bespoke one-off commissions through its Sur Mesure (French for “custom made”) program. The program gives customers a wide range of custom-configuration options and tailors each example to the client’s specific taste or interests. And the custom division’s latest one-off work wonderfully demonstrates its capabilities, attention to detail, and world-class execution, with a brand-new one-of-one Chiron Super Sport that pays homage to Bugatti’s iconic Type 57 SC Atlantic.
Christened the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ’57, this one-off hypercar’s story actually starts more than 20 years ago when an automotive and motorsport enthusiast visited the Mullin Automotive Museum at Oxnard. While touring the museum she stumbled across Bugatti’s legendary Type 57 SC Atlantic — instantly falling in love with the ultra-rare ’30s era grand tourer. As the years went on, the memory of the Type 57 would stay with her. Fast forward to roughly a year ago, and her husband — a Bugatti owner himself — would surprise her with something of the ultimate automotive present for her 70th birthday; a trip to Bugatti HQ in Molsheim, France where she would get to configure her very own Chiron Super Sport. Arriving in France, the customer would meet with head of Bugatti’s Sur Mesure program, Jascha Straub, who would work hand-in-hand with the client to help develop and then deliver her vision. Unsurprisingly, the Type 57 SC Atlantic quickly came up in conversation, and before long, the two hatched a plan to create a modern-day automotive tribute to the Type 57 SC.
The Chiron Super Sport ’57 features an interior that’s trimmed in light brown “Gaucho” leather and decorated with illustrations of the Type 57 SC Atlantic’s silhouette on its door panels and “Dancing Elephant” logos on its headrests. The cabin also gets bespoke door sills and a “57” center console badge. The underside of the hypercar’s rear wing also sports a hand-drawn silhouette of the Atlantic. The one-off’s most noteworthy feature is undoubtedly its bespoke grille, which is a polished item with vertical slats and a thicker center spine — another area modeled after the Type 57 SC. Completing this bespoke one-of-one package is silver-tinted blue paint — a hue that’s pulled directly from the original Type 57 SC Atlantic.
Though the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ’57 One-Off is obviously already spoken for, it nonetheless does a superb job of demonstrating the marque’s ability to collaborate with customers and turn their interests and passions into inspiration for custom one-of-one hypercars.
