Unofficially known as the “Moby Dick,” the Porsche 935 is an iconic and instantly recognizable Group 5-spec race car first introduced in the 1970s. A no-holds-barred evolution of the Stuttgart marque’s 930 Turbo platform, the 935 famously featured a distinctive, aerodynamic set of bodywork with a slant nose-style front-end, widebody-style fender flares, and a longtail-type rear-end capped off with a large rear wing. Over the Fall of 2018, Porsche announced plans to pay homage to this legendary track-only model via a limited edition run of modern 935 specimens using the firm’s latest 911 GT2 RS as its basis. With only 77 specimens produced, the 991.2-gen 935 is an incredibly rare model, and while every example was originally snapped up upon its reveal, one of these factory-built automotive homages it now up for grabs via auction.

Weighing in at just 3,042lbs, the 2019 Porsche 935 sports an aluminum-steel composite body design cloaked in carbon fiber Kevlar panels. Putting a modern spin on the ‘70s era endurance racer’s flatnose and whale tail setup, the car’s suite of carbon bodywork also boasts a contemporary aero kit with a pronounced front splitter, widebody fenders, side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a massive rear wing. With its stretched tail, the 2019 935 now measures 15.97’ in overall length. The contemporary 935 also gets exposed dual-pipe mufflers inspired by Porsche’s 1968 908 racer, and the aerodynamic carbon-capped mirror design borrowed from the Le Mans-winning 911 RSR. What’s more, the entire vehicle also rides on a custom set of single-piece forged center-locking race wheels that have been fitted with carbon aero discs and Michelin racing slicks.

Originally priced at €701,948 (~ 768,397) in 2019, the new 935 is powered by a liquid-cooled 3.8-liter Type MA173 flat-six engine mated to a seven-speed PDK unit. Benefitting from a pair of turbochargers, air-to-air intercoolers, and VarioCam Plus variable valve timing, this highly-tuned flat-six puts down a very respectable 700hp and 553ft-lbs of torque — at 7,000rpm and 4,500rpm, respectively. The 2019 935 also benefits from an advanced suspension setup with McPherson struts, forged links, high-performance spherical bearings, three-way-adjustable racing dampers, reinforced tie-rods, and electro-mechanical power steering. Inside, the fully-gutted, race-spec cabin has been bestowed with a welded-in safety cage, a fire extinguishing system, a RECARO bucket seat with a six-point harness, a removable roof-mounted escape hatch, all digital Cosworth ICD race instrumentation, and a flat-bottom carbon fiber LM-style steering wheel.
