From Lyric to SUPER73 to Onyx to Monday Motorbikes, there’s no shortage of fledgling EV brands currently producing pedal-equipped two-wheelers that blur the line between ebike and motorcycle. Despite the space becoming increasingly oversaturated in recent years, one new startup has managed to deliver an objectively novel take on a pedal-equipped ebike-moto hybrid with Async’s all-new A1 Pro.
The A1 Pro is crafted around a unique integrated chassis with a top-tube that runs the entire length of the bike, housing the headlight assembly, serving as the subframe, and acting as the taillight housing. The vertically-running structural member contains a sealed rear monoshock, linkage, and crank, as well. Running gear on the ebike includes an inverted fork, spoked wheels shod in 20” x 4.0” tires fore and aft, and a quad-piston hydraulic front braking setup. IPX7-rated, this EV small displacement equivalent also features a carbon belt drive, a 123-lb curb weight, a PU foam-cushioned 1.8” saddle, a unique LED headlight arrangement, and the ability to climb slopes as steep as 26.8°.
The A1 Pro is kicked along by an electric motor that generates 2,500-watts (3.35hp) of peak power and 73.75ft-lbs of torque. Drawing from a removable battery, the Pro-spec A1 offers a range between 80 and 150 miles. Offered in Moon Silver or Space Orange livery options, the A1 Pro features multiple power modes such as a road-going mode that limits speeds to 28mph and an unrestricted off-road mode that tops out at 35mph. Unlocked via a digital key, the A1 Pro is also loaded with tech and features cutting-edge amenities such as a 5.5” full-color IPS display, built-in fall and crash detection, connectivity to a dedicated app, onboard GPS, Bluetooth connectivity, geofencing capabilities, and “find my bike” feature, amongst others.
Expected to begin deliveries in July, the Async A1 Pro eBike is available for preorder now at a 20% discount for $2,799 before its eventual $3,499 MSRP. Async is also producing a low-specced non-Pro A1 model that’s currently available for preorder starting at $1,999.
