Back in January at CES, Alpinestars revealed its next generation of airbag systems, pulling the cover off of the new commuter-focused Tech-Air 3 vest, the Dakar-derived Tech-Air OFF-ROAD V2 system, and the race-bred Tech-Air 10 system — the latter of which has now finally hit the market, offering riders the most comprehensive coverage of any airbag and the highest levels of protection that money can currently buy.
Born out of more than a decade of research with the world’s top MotoGP riders, the new Tech-Air 10 airbag system provides markedly superior protection than existing airbags on the market, with the product’s airbags now covering the rider’s shoulders, chest, full back, and hips, decreasing impact forces by up to 95% (compared to a passive protector), and affording the same level of protection that would otherwise require a whopping 18 back protectors to achieve. Deployed via an argon gas canister charge, the entire airbag system is capable of deploying in just 40 milliseconds. As a point of reference, it takes the average human ten times longer to blink.
Neatly integrated into a base-layer-style suit with a stretch construction and a highly ventilated back protector, this self-contained, wearable airbag system relies on an active electronic system that boasts 12 triaxial integrated sensors — comprised of a trio of accelerometers and a single gyroscope on each side— that feed real-time data through an advanced crash algorithm that utilizes AI in order to know when — and when not — to deploy the airbag. Designed to be worn under Astars’ Tech-Air-compatible race jackets and suits, this new state-of-the-art airbag system also comes with a USB-rechargeable battery that offers 24 hours of use on a single charge, Bluetooth and app integration, and a remote wireless LED display that gives real-time feeds of the airbag’s operational status.
Made for track-only use, the Alpinestars Tech-Air 10 Race Airbag System is available now, with pricing set at $1,000.
