Twisted Finally Turns Its Attention to the Range Rover Classic with This 500HP Restomod

There’s a certain kind of automotive nostalgia that goes beyond just liking old cars. It’s the kind rooted in a specific memory of a specific vehicle, that shaped how you see everything that came after it. For Twisted founder Charles Fawcett, that car was a terracotta two-door Range Rover Classic his father drove in the ’80s, fitted with fiberglass arches, white Weller wheels, and a valance fashioned from an MGB GT spoiler. And after 25 years of redefining what a Defender could be, Fawcett’s U.K.-based firm has finally turned that memory into a product: the TRRC, Twisted’s first-ever interpretation of the Range Rover Classic.

A Long Time Coming

Fawcett started the company in 2001 out of Yorkshire as a part-time Defender tuning operation, eventually going full-time in 2008, then making one of the boldest bets in the restomod space by stockpiling 240 brand-new 2016 Defenders for £7.5 million right before Land Rover pulled the plug on the original model. That gamble built the foundation for everything Twisted has become, and the T90 and T110 programs that followed set the benchmark for what a reimagined British 4×4 could actually be. The TRRC is a natural progression, applying that same obsessive engineering philosophy to the Range Rover Classic body.

Built From the Right Era

Donor vehicles are sourced from the 1990-92 two-door Range Rover Classic, and the build starts completely from scratch. Chassis and axle casings are stripped, blasted, and e-coated in a satin black protective finish, then rebuilt with an entirely new set of hand-formed aluminum panels. Every exterior surface is bespoke, from the front and rear rolled arches to the color-coded C-pillars and front splitter with integrated driving lights.

The front bumper is a nod to the 1970s Classic while the grille and headlight surrounds reference the 1990s. Panel tolerances, by Twisted’s own description, are obsessive, which is par for the course for a shop that’s been refining this process across hundreds of Defender builds. As for color, Twisted’s press images show the TRRC in a bold yellow paintjob with a tan leather interior.

Power and Performance

Power comes from GM’s 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated LT1 V8, producing 500hp and paired to an eight-speed automatic. It’s the same engine choice Twisted has leaned on in its Defender program, and it works here for the same reasons: massive low-end torque and a beautiful sound profile. You also get braking from a six-piston front, a four-pot rear setup, and upgraded differentials. Suspension and bushing work was dialed specifically for the Range Rover’s character, prioritizing suppleness over sport.

Inside, seats sit lower than stock, aimed to redirect the driver’s eyeline toward the upper windscreen and take full advantage of that glass-everywhere cabin. Leather covers every interior surface, heated front seats are standard, and the soundproofing is mounted to the underside of the carpet rather than the shell. You can pull the carpet back and see the pristine metalwork underneath. Audio is provided by Twisted’s eight-channel discreet system with a single-DIN infotainment head unit. Climate control is updated as well.

Recap

2026 Twisted TRRC Range Rover Classic Restomod

Twisted’s TRRC is the Yorkshire shop’s first crack at the Range Rover Classic, and it’s everything you’d expect from a team that’s spent 25 years perfecting the Defender — hammer-formed aluminum bodywork, a 500-hp GM LT1 V8, and the kind of obsessive build quality that justifies the $400K ask.
