Royal Enfield’s “Flying Flea” Electric Sub-Brand Just Debuted Its First Motorcycle

During the Second World War, Royal Enfield produced motorcycles for the British War Office. Christened the WD/RE, these British-built two-wheelers were better known by their unofficial name of the “Flying Flee” — a reference to their lightweight nature and the fact they were designed to be airdropped from military planes. More recently, Royal Enfield has looked to the WW2-era scoot for inspiration for its new electric motorcycle sub-brand dubbed “Flying Flea.”

The Basics

Just like what Harley-Davidson has done with its Livewire sub-brand, Royal Enfield has launched a new marque that will exclusively be building electric motorcycles. Flying Flea is deeply rooted in Royal Enfield’s history, drawing visual aesthetics from the British brand’s early bikes while still sporting a thoroughly modern appearance. Like Royal Enfield gas-powered bikes, it appears that Flying Flea will primarily focus on mid-weight and small-bore EV equivalents.

The Brand

Comprised of a massive team of expert staffers including over 200 engineers based in both India and the UK, Flying Flea aims to combine retro-inspired looks with modern technology, and will be developing its own motor, batteries, and software all completely in-house. In fact, the startup already has over 30 patents to its name. The EV sub-brand’s manufacturing facility will be based in Vallam Vadagal, India, as well.

The Bobber

Flying Flea’s inaugural bike is known as the FF-C6 — a lightweight fully-electric bike combining standard and bobber styling. Designed to be approachable to new riders yet powerful enough for experienced bikers to still enjoy, the FF-C6 is constructed around a forged aluminum frame that’s been paired with a throwback-inspired aluminum girder-style fork. The electric powertrain features a simple twist-and-go throttle that’s fully automatic and devoid of any clutch, gears, or shifting. Despite its neo-retro appearance, the FF-C6 actually boasts a slew of contemporary features such as the ability to use your smartphone as its key, five ride modes, a TFT display, antilock brakes, and adjustable power, regenerate braking, and traction control.

The Scrambler

Alongside the FF-C6, Flying Flea has also announced its second model. Dubbed the Flying Flea S6, this model shares its electric powertrain with the FF-C6 though sports neo-retro scrambler-inspired styling. Thus far Flying Flea hasn’t revealed when the S6 will be available, though we imagine it will roll into dealerships sometime in 2026.
