For all intents and purposes, the INEOS Grenadier is a modern workhorse that happens to look like an old Defender. But Chelsea Truck Company clearly wasn’t satisfied leaving it at that. The Surrey-based coachbuilder, founded in 2010 by ex-Land Rover engineers, has now folded the Grenadier into its Heritage Remastered program. The line launched in 2023 with the new Defender (L663) and expanded to the Jeep Wrangler JL in 2024. Bringing the Grenadier in was, frankly, inevitable.

Circle Back to the Source
The Grenadier’s origin story is well-documented at this point: Sir Jim Ratcliffe, billionaire head of the INEOS chemicals group, watched Land Rover kill off the original Defender in 2016 and decided to build a replacement himself. The concept was sketched out over drinks at his favorite London pub, the Grenadier in Belgravia, and the rest is (recent) history. Chelsea Truck Company’s Heritage Remastered treatment essentially takes that torch and runs further with it, pulling direct visual cues from the 2008 Defender 110 SVX 60th Anniversary Edition for this particular prototype build.

What Chelsea Truck Actually Did Here
Using the INEOS Grenadier Fieldmaster Edition as its base, the exterior work centers on CTC’s signature Lattice Mesh front grille, a period-correct nod to Land Rovers of the 1940s that single-handedly changes the Grenadier’s face from utilitarian to something with a bit more character. From there, the kit adds 40mm wide wheel arches with integrated KAHN plaques, a heritage-style rear roof wing, and an expedition-spec spare wheel cover with CTC’s crest. The wheels are newly developed British Heritage RS-Forged 9×20-inch alloys. They’re lightweight, UK-engineered, rated to a 5-ton load capacity, and are finished here in Volcanic Satin Silver, which contrasts sharply against the factory Inky Black bodywork. The silver treatment extends to the bumpers, door hinges, and grille trim. The whole aesthetic is very tight here.

Inside, the cabin has been thoroughly re-trimmed in Old English Tan quilted and perforated leather across the front and rear seats, door panels, door tops, grab handles, handbrake surround, gaiter, center armrest, and shifter.

What’s Under the Hood
In case you’re wondering, the drivetrain stays untouched. The BMW-sourced 3.0-liter B58 straight-six petrol produces 282 hp and 332 lb.ft of torque, routed through an eight-speed automatic to all four wheels. The Grenadier’s steel ladder chassis, beam axles, and locking differentials all remain intact.
