Carroll Shelby passed away over a decade ago now but his legacy certainly lives on. His namesake company has continued to produce vehicles to this day, including the upcoming release of the GT350, based on his very first Mustang model 60 years ago. This 2025 is quite impressive and even comes with a track-ready version. Let’s take a look…
Shelby and Ford
Leaving behind a successful career as a professional driver in the 1950s, Shelby envisioned an American automobile market filled with the touring cars that were so popular in Europe at the time. First opening a customs shop in Los Angeles, he eventually developed a relationship with Ford, who was providing parts for his Cobra models. This quickly led to the production of the Shelby Mustang, a third-party, high-performance version of Ford’s popular pony car, raising the bar for American sports cars for generations to come.
2025 Shelby Mustang GT350 Basics
While the first-generation Shelby Mustangs were impressive in their own right, with their Windsor 4.7-liter HiPo K-Code V8 engines, this new 2025 model is a different beast, with a supercharged 5.0-liter Mustang V8 delivering 810hp (up from 500hp in the Mustang Dark Horse edition), with the option of either manual or automatic transmission. There’s also an upgraded suspension, upgraded exhaust, and a refreshed front grill with more aggressive styling.
Along with the GT350, there’s a track-focused GT350R, a street-legal edition with a slight bump in power to 830hp, a 6-speed manual transmission, and plenty of carbon fiber details, including the interior trim, tub, and racing seats with racing harnesses. Other additions to this version include adjustable track suspension, ProSystems Alcon racing brakes, and gold-painted Forge line racing wheels. Borrowing elements from Shelby’s Trans Am-spec racing car set to compete next year, the vehicle is also built to be more aerodynamic and features an integrated roll cage.

Pricing & Availability
As a cool nod to the original GT350, Shelby is releasing 250 examples, the exact same number as 1965’s production run. These will start at $109,999 and will go into production in Q2 of this year. Meanwhile, the GT350R will only see 36 examples, also the same as 1965. However, pricing and availability haven’t been revealed yet.
