In 1969 — only two years after the very first Baja 1000 — car builder and off-road racer Bill Stroppe built a modified Ford Bronco that, after winning the 1969 Baja 1000, would go on to achieve legendary status. Stroppe’s 1969 win also marked the first — and only — time a stock 4×4 achieved an overall victory at the grueling event. And while five-and-a-half-decades have come and gone since Stroppe’s first victory at the Baja 1K, both the driver and the machine he built continue to maintain an almost mythical status. To celebrate Stroppe’s win — and contribution to Ford and desert racing in general — the Michigan marque has rolled out a limited Stroppe Edition Bronco that pays homage to Bill’s Baja Broncos.

The Basics
The Bronco Stroppe Edition is based on the Blue Oval’s 2-Door Wildtrak Bronco variant with the Sasquatch package, though the thing has received a myriad of noteworthy upgrades of both the mechanical and cosmetic varieties. This limited edition Bronco also features numerous nods and references to Bill Stroppe’s Baja-winning Bronco.
Stroppe-Inspired Paints
The Bronco Stroppe Edition sports a unique tri-tone color scheme that’s modeled after the Calypso Coral, Wimbledon White, and Astra Blue race livery seen on Stroppe’s Baja Broncos. The Stroppe Edition’s paint job consists of a combination of Oxford White, Atlas Blue painted, and Code Orange — with this new limited edition representing the first time that Code Orange has appeared on a Bronco from outside the Raptor lineup.
This scheme sees the blue hue used for the SUV’s hardtop, and Code Orange and Oxford White adorning the body. The grille is also finished in Frost White and is complemented via a Code Orange “Bronco” wordmark, while the hood comes cloaked in matte black to help mitigate sun glare.

Off-Road Components
Inspired by Stroppe’s Baja-winning Broncos, the Stroppe Edition model comes loaded with a host of off-road goodies as standard. This includes Ford’s H.O.S.S 3.0 (High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension 3.0) suspension setup complete with FOX Internal Bypass Dampers that have been custom-engineered and tuned specifically for high-speed desert running.
It doesn’t end there though — far from it — as this limited edition Bronco also gets Ford’s Baja G.O.A.T. Mode, a stabilizer bar disconnect function, tow hook-equipped steel bumpers fore and aft, flared, high-clearance fenders, a skid plate, and unique removable side steps with integrated rock rails. The entire rig rides on a set of 17-inch wheels with matte-black beadlock rings and gloss-black spokes. This wheel-set comes shod in beefy 35-inch Goodyear Territory RT tires, as well.
Interior Elements
Though it’s not as transformative as the vehicle’s exterior, Ford’s design team has nonetheless bestowed the Stroppe Edition Bronco’s cabin with a host of model-exclusive details such as a white instrument mid-panel, a special dash-mounted “Bronco” wordmark, a unique Stroppe Special Edition badge on the center console, and Code Orange accents and accent stitching throughout.

Under The Hood
Powering the Bronco Stroppe Edition is Ford’s tried-and-true turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6. Bolted to a ten-speed auto, the V6 cranks out a respectable 330hp and 415ft-lbs of torque — all of which is sent to the ground via a standard all-wheel drive system.
Straight From The Horse’s Bronco’s Mouth
“Bill Stroppe not only established Bronco’s competition legacy at events like the Baja 1000 and NORRA Mexican 1000, but Stroppe Baja Broncos put his off-road knowhow on the road and helped establish Bronco with consumers,” explains Ford Archivist Ted Ryan said. “Today’s Bronco, with the G.O.A.T Modes and Sasquatch package, can trace its existence back to Bill Stroppe’s work.”
