Back in September, Ford revealed what would be the F-150 Raptor for the 2024 model year. Along with a new headlight design, a modular front bumper option, and dual-valve Fox shocks for high-speed desert runs (on the 37-inch tire option), it also runs on a 3.5L twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 with 450hp and 510lb.ft of torque. Along with the boosted numbers, the new Raptor also came with some cosmetic changes, including new hood graphics and a new Shelter Green exterior color option. The marque had promised an updated high-performance R version of the Raptor as well, which it’s now delivering with some performance info that’s just been revealed.

Going on sale in early 2024, the Ford F-150 Raptor R gives a bump to last year’s R model, with a 5.2L supercharged V8 that puts out 720hp (bumped up from last year’s 700hp) and 640lb.ft of torque. While the engine is the same as last year’s model, Ford cites “reduced air inlet losses coupled with an optimized calibration that also results in a wider torque curve” as the reason for the improved performance numbers. For all intents and purposes, this is looking to be the most powerful F-150 Raptor that Ford has ever made.

First introduced in 2010, the F-150 Raptor really allowed the segment of high-performance production pickups to take off, even though they had existed since the late ‘80s. However, it was the Raptor that called for the competition (and Ford itself) to best one another when it came to their turnkey trucks. And not only has Ford remained the frontrunner in the contest, but it’s continuing to improve upon its personal bests as well.
