With svelte curb weights and gobs of torque, lightweight ebikes have become increasingly popular choices for both urban commuting and off-roading riding. Recognizing this reality, American EV upstart Huck Cycles has begun producing battery-powered two-wheelers that capitalize on these traits with a steadily-growing range of lightweight electric motorcycles. For 2023, the veteran-owned and operated North Carolina company has come out swinging with a trio of new models — the most noteworthy of which is almost certainly the 2023 Huck Cycles Stinger.
Developed over the course of three years, the Stinger is a scrambler-inspired ebike that’s constructed around a custom-designed frame and built by hand in North Carolina on a made-to-order basis. The standard version of the Stinger features a 3-kW (nominal, 6-kW peak) powertrain paired with dual 60V, 50Ah (6kWh) batteries and a Sabvoton SVMC 72150 controller, plus an inverted fork, an air-spring shock, 17” spoked wheels, a 5.75” circular LED headlight, and a waterproof TFT display. Huck is also offering a Performance Upgrade that comes loaded with a powertrain with 8.5kw of peak power, dual 72V 50Ah (7.2kWh) batteries, an M-200S fork and an MTG-RC shock from DNM Suspension Technology, and a waterproof LCD Can-Bus display. The standard version tops out at 45mph while offering a 65-mile range (or a 120-mile range at 20mph) while the Performance Upgrade variant has a 55-mph top speed while delivering a 65-mile range.
Produced in five color options, both versions of these lightweight electric motorcycles feature an adjustable 30” to 32” seat height, a 200-lb curb weight, a 55-inch wheelbase, dual-pot hydraulic brakes, a straight high-mount front fender, and a host of custom-machined aluminum parts such as the bike’s foot-pegs and handlebars that were designed by Huck and made by Taylor Manufacturing in Hampton, Virginia. What’s more, the Stinger’s motor and controller come courtesy of Linear Labs in Houston Texas. The bike’s seat is also handcrafted by the artisans and high-end furniture makers at TAPIA’s Sound and Upholstery in Highpoint, North Carolina. In addition to an available rear rack, saddle bags, and body box, Huck is also selling an optional extended seat and set of passenger pegs that afford the Stinger two-up rideability.
Available for preorder now with deliveries scheduled to begin next month, the 2023 Huck Cycles Stinger starts at $8,690 for the base model and goes up to $9,999 for the Performance Upgrade-equipped model.
