For over half a century, Ford’s vehicles have been the go-to platform for individuals and companies looking to build out coaches and adventure vans, with more motorhomes being built atop the Blue Oval’s chassis than any other manufacturer. And while the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter model has been giving Ford’s Transit van a good run for its money in recent years, the Michigan marque is now looking to reestablish its dominance in the space with the debut of the new highly-modular and off-road-ready Ford Pro Transit Trail Adventure Van.
Available in three cargo van configurations — medium and high-roof models and a high-roof extended-length-spec — the Transit Trail was designed with a major focus on off-road performance, with the stock vehicle boasting 16” alloy wheels shod in 30.5” Goodyear all-terrain tires, a black grille with integrated marker lamps, black HID headlamps, a skid plate-style front bumper, splash guards, wheel arch cladding and arch liners, slider-style driver and passenger-side steps, and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive with five selectable drive modes including Eco, Mud/Ruts, Slippery, and Tow/Haul settings. Sporting a track that’s 2.75” wider than its predecessor, the Transit Trail van also comes equipped with a ride height that’s been raised by 3.5”.
Powering the adventure van is Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and good for 310hp and 400ft-lbs of torque. The van also features a towing capacity of up to 6,500lbs, Blind Spot Assist 1.0, Reverse and Side Sensing systems, Adaptive Cruise Control, a high-resolution digital camera, a 12” touchscreen, and 110-volt and 12-volt regular and USB outlets. Boasting up to 487 cubic feet of cargo space, the Transit Trail is also being offered with a variety of available upgrade packages such as the travel-focused Upfitter Package. Decked out with an overhead shelf, illuminated sun visors, and swiveling driver and passenger captains chairs, the interior of the Transit Trail also comes loaded with a myriad of drillable areas that have been strategically located to streamline the installation of cabinetry, shelving, and beds.
Assembled at the Blue Oval’s Kansas City Assembly Plant and backed by the brand’s 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, the 2023 Ford Pro Transit Trail Adventure Van will start at $65,9755.
