BMW massively raised the bar in the superbike class with the introduction of the S 1000 RR in 2009, delivering a track-focused literbike with the most advanced electronics package ever seen on a production sportbike. And while the S1KRR did receive a major model update in 2019, it’s gone largely unchanged since. That is, until now, as the Bavarian brand has just pulled the cover of the new and heavily-improved 2023 model year S 1000 RR.
BMW’s latest flagship superbike is pieced together around a new Flex Frame with improved chassis geometry and a fully adjustable 45mm USD fork. Equipped with BMW’s ShiftCam Technology, the superbike is powered by a 999cc inline-four engine that cranks out 205hp and 83ft-lbs of torque and redlines at 14,600rpm. The latest S 1000 RR is also absolutely brimming with advanced tech and boasts Hill Start Control Pro, Advanced Shift Assistant Pro, Dynamic Damping Control DDC, launch control, a pit lane limiter, multiple throttle maps including rain mode, road mode, dynamic mode, and three race modes, ABS Pro with a new Brake Slide Assist and an ABS Pro “Slick” setting, and Dynamic Traction Control with an all-new Slide Control function.
Another major update on the bike is its aero kit, which now benefits from a newly designed rear section, a new taller race-style windshield, and a pair of downforce-generating MotoGP-style front winglets. Additional highlights include an M lightweight battery as standard, a 6.5” TFT display, a USB port, a shorter license plate holder, a redesigned wiring harness, a rear wheel that’s easier to remove, an M GPS Mouse Adapter, and a new optional integrated GoPro mount. BMW is also offering numerous upgrade packages including the Race Package, Carbon Package, Milled Parts Package, Dynamic Package, and the M Package, plus more than 30 available M components as well as an optional alarm system, pillion seat cover, and RDC tire pressure monitor.
Scheduled to hit dealerships in January of next year, the 2023 BMW S 1000 RR superbike will start at $17,895. The 2023 S1KRR will also be offered in three livery options; metallic Blackstorm; non-metallic Racing Red; and a non-metallic Lightwhite juxtaposed by BMW M colors.
