Tesla’s shop has long been where the brand’s weirder impulses go to live, from Cybertruck-shaped whistles to $75 tequila sipping glasses. Most of it is just novelty merch with a markup.
Every so often, though, the design team clearly has some fun with the assignment, and the latest example might be the best one yet. Say hello to the Tesla Balance Bike for Kids.
Cybertruck Proportions, Playground Scale
The bike definitely speaks the Tesla design language. The angular white bodywork, blacked-out contact points, and chunky enclosed rear section all feel very natural for the brand. And honestly, it actually looks pretty rad.
There’s no motor here, no screen, and no software. It’s just a frame, two wheels, and whatever horsepower your kid’s legs can produce.
Magnesium Where It Counts
The frame is lightweight magnesium, which is legitimately the good stuff in this category. Premium balance bike makers use the same material for the same reason; a bike a toddler can’t pick up is a bike a toddler won’t ride.
The seat adjusts through five height positions along that rear section, so the bike can stretch from a wobbly 2-year-old to a confident 5-year-old before graduating to pedals. Tesla lists a 13.7-inch minimum leg length, a 66.1-pound recommended weight limit, and a 77.1-pound absolute ceiling. Assembly is required, but the tools come in the box.
Priced Like a Woom, Flipped Like a Ferrari
Now, $225 sounds absurd for a bike with no drivetrain at least until you check out the premium end of the segment. The magnesium-framed Woom 1 runs $249, so Tesla parked itself right in established territory rather than inventing a new tier of nonsense.
However, the nonsense did come into play later. Of course, the bike sold out almost instantly, and a handful of eBay listings materialized with asking prices running from four figures to one seller’s laughably optimistic $50,000 ask.
