The very first production Ferrari Luce is headed to the auction block, with RM Sotheby’s set to hammer the car at its Monterey sale this August. And, Ferrari has decided to sell it without reserve.
That takes some guts when the car in question spent its launch week getting torched online while billions evaporated from the company’s stock price. Two months later, Maranello’s answer is this white-on-white Luce “Tailor Made,” better known as Chassis 0.
A Referendum With a Gavel
RM Sotheby’s has slotted Chassis 0 into its Monterey sale as Lot 345, with a value pegged “in excess of” $1.1 million. For reference, a regular Luce stickers around $640K, so the auction house is banking on a healthy first-off-the-line premium.
Every dollar of the hammer price goes to The Ferrari Foundation, the brand’s 501(c)(3) charity for educational initiatives, which hands deep-pocketed bidders both a tax angle and a moral license to run the number up. It also means the final figure lands as a very public verdict on Ferrari’s first EV.
The Whitest Prancing Horse Ever
Ferrari’s Tailor Made division built the whole spec around a single theme, light. The one-off Madreperla Semi-Gloss paint carries a pigment that throws iridescent reflections shifting from green to violet depending on how the sun hits it.
Inside, Perla Le Mans metallic leather (a Tailor Made exclusive cut from Swiss hides) keeps the monochrome going, and this is the first Ferrari to swap the usual black secondary trim for Grigio Corvara. White wheels, white calipers, and even a prancing horse set against an optical white background finish the job, along with a plaque confirming this is production chassis number zero.
Underneath, It’s Still 1,035 Horsepower
Mechanically, nothing changes. This is the same quad-motor Luce we covered back in May. As a refresher, that means 1,035 horsepower, 730 lb-ft of torque, a 193-mph top end, and a 2.5-second run to 62 that embarrasses the V12 Purosangu
Will any of that quiet the comment sections? Probably not. But here’s the thing about firsts: the 5,000th Luce will depreciate like a used iPhone, while there will only ever be one Chassis 0 of the first electric Ferrari. Collectors have made safer bets on far stranger cars.
