Produced from 1967 through 1969, the first-generation Chevrolet Camaro unequivocally stands as one of the most iconic muscle cars in history. However, with a curb weight of around 3,500lbs and a power output of around 140 to 290 horses (depending on the model variant), it’s safe to say the first-gen pony car is now pretty long in the tooth, with even the top-of-the-line RS Z28-spec boasting a 0-60mph time of roughly 7.5 seconds. Wanting to modernize the ‘60s era Camaro’s performance capabilities while retaining its iconic appearance, Oklahoma-based automotive outfit Finale Speed has just rolled out a small production, carbon-bodied Camaro restomod.
Christened “Viral,” the restomodded muscle car is being touted by Finale Speed as being “the world’s first exposed-weave carbon-fiber ’69 Camaro.” Built to full OEM-spec utilizing pre-preg autoclave-cured carbon fiber, this exposed weave replica bodywork has been treated to flush-mounted glass, all-billet hinges and handles, all-LED lighting, and a protective ASF Glasurit clear coat. Beneath the bodywork also sits a modern, custom-built chassis. Under its carbon fiber hood, Viral packs a GM Performance LT4 crate engine with a Wegner pulley system, an American Autowire harness, and a custom stainless steel exhaust system with Ultimate Headers headers and MagnaFlow mufflers. Good for 650hp, the 6.2-liter small block V8 has been paired with a Tremec T-56 Super Magnum six-speed manual transmission, plus a 9” rear end with a Positraction limited slip diff and Dutchman axles.
The Camaro’s handling has also been massively upgraded thanks to the addition of Speedtech sub-frames fore and aft, oversized sway bars, and JRi coilovers, while the pony car’s stopping power has also been bolstered through the use of Wilwood calipers with 14” slotted, cross-drilled, and vented rotors. The entire build also rides on a set of 18” Forgeline three-piece VX3C-SL wheels shod in Toyo Proxes R888R rubber, too. Fortified via a custom-built four-point rollbar, the cabin of the Camaro has also been hugely reworked and now benefits from VXR seats, a carbon rear-seat delete, an Alcantara headliner and door panels courtesy of TMI, Classic Instruments gauges, an Old Air Products climate-control system, a three-spoke steering wheel, and an Alpine head unit paired with a Mosconi five-channel amp, Focal speakers, and a Focal sub.
Built on a made-to-order basis and offered as a roller body or a complete finished turnkey vehicle, Finale Speed’s carbon fiber-bodied 1969 Chevrolet Camaro ‘Viral’ restomod is available for order now, with pricing starting at $349,000.
