Originally launched under the banner of Prometheus Design Werx in 2016 — before Terrain 365 was established as a brand in 2018 — the Invictus is a legendary, award-winning folding knife that’s just as conducive to outdoor use as it is to everyday carry. Part of the Dauntless Project, the Invictus utilized a silhouette that would ultimately serve as the basis for a great many of Terrain 365’s knives — from the brand’s Invictus Balisong to its Audax OTF. And now, nearly a decade after the folder’s release, Terrain 365 has unveiled the latest evolutionary step in the Invictus chain with what’s been dubbed the Narwhal-AT.

The Five Flavors Of Narwhal

Like most Invictus models, the Narwhal-AT is being offered in a myriad of different configurations. In typical Terrain 365 fashion, the thing is available in a full-titanium version, as well as in Micarta, G10, and carbon fiber versions. The company has also introduced its first-ever full-size knife to be offered with FatCarbon scales — coming on the heels of its FatCarbon-scaled Otter Flip-AT.

A Sea-Ready Leading Edge

The Narwhal-AT features a symmetrical, medium-width spear point blade with a fuller on its show-side. The blade runs on ceramic bearings set in brass cages and comes decorated in a laser-engraved Terrain 365 logo mark. Spanning 3.54” in length and clocking in at 0.131” thick, the blade is crafted from Terrain 365’s Terravantium. This proprietary dendritic cobalt is completely and totally corrosion proof — not corrosion resistant. This All Terrain-spec knife sees its blade deployed via either front or rear flipper tabs — a design that replaces the Invictus’ normal GITD thumbstud cabochons.

Getting A Handle On It

The Narwhal-AT is constructed around a titanium chassis with a titanium framelock. Measuring only 0.48” thick, the handle also features a ceramic ball detent, and one of four different show-side handle scale inlays (other than on the full-titanium model). This ergonomic design comes adorned in the brand’s signature quintuple fuller design and features the Invictus’ trigger finger groove. The knife’s show-side and off-side both feature a dive watch-style glow-in-the-dark pivot collar — a detail we thoroughly appreciate as we loved the GITD thumbstud cabochons on the Invictus, so the fact Terrain 365 has carried over a lumed element onto the Narwhal (despite losing its thumb-studs) is just a really cool touch.

Titanium Everything

In addition to the titanium frame-lock, Terrain 365 has also crafted almost every other part of the knife from titanium — minus its Terravantium blade. This means a jimped titanium back-spacer, a titanium pivot, and all-titanium hardware throughout. The company has also bestowed the thing with a low-ride billet pocket clip that’s fitted with a ceramic ball bearing — not unlike the design found on the latest generation of ultra-premium knives from Microtech.

Sizing Up The Narwhal

The Narwhal-AT spans 8.15”, which places it squarely into full-sized territory. As a point of reference, Spyderco’s Para Military 2 and Benchmade’s 535 Bugout clock in at 8.29” and 7.46” overall respectively. Its handle is also just under half-an-inch-thick, making it exceedingly pocketable while still being decidedly robust. The knife weighs 4.5oz for an all-titanium model, while the G10, Micarta, and regular carbon and FatCarbon-scaled variants of the Narwhal-AT all tip the scales at half-an-ounce less.

Designed Here, Made There

We’ve got to address the elephant in the room, and that’s this knife’s manufacturing origin. Despite its fairly exorbitant price point, the Narwhal-AT is made overseas in China — though it was designed here in California. Having said that, Terrain 365’s build quality truly is world-class, and in some cases even outshines the craftsmanship of USA-made blades. So, while we’d prefer if it was made here, it’s hard to deduct too many points here as Terrain 365’s fit and finish has always been absolutely superb in our experience — and we’ve handled and tested our fair share of knives from the company.

Why We Love It

The Narwhal-AT is tangible proof that Terrain 365 isn’t just resting on its laurels — quite the opposite in fact, as the brand clearly continues to push the envelope. While the Invictus is already a fantastic-looking knife, Terrain 365 has nonetheless managed to outdo itself with its latest release. The design is sleek and modern, exuding clear purpose and utility — and doing so without looking overly aggressive. It’s honestly a silhouette that’s practically guaranteed to resonate with any design-obsessed individual. The knife’s insane corrosion resistance is another key highlight, as is the fact that the entire knife is basically corrosion-proof thanks to the Terravantium and titanium (though it does require a brief rinse after being exposed to salt water). And that’s all before factoring in the top-notch build quality and the company’s signature use of ultra-premium materials.
