Operating under the banner of Radio Baobab, Belgian-born adventurers Frederik Willems and Josephine Limpens have spent the last two decades traversing the planet in a turn-of-the-millennium-era Toyota Landcruiser that’s been converted into an overland expedition vehicle. And after putting nearly 250,000-miles on the rig, the pair are now looking for a new owner to pick up where their travels left off.
Known as an “Azalaï,” this particular vehicle was built in 2003 using a brand new Landcruiser HZJ 79 and marked the fourth completed Azalaï conversion. Weighing around 7,700lbs, the overlander stands at 8’ tall and measures 6.5’ wide and 18.3’ long. Giving the Landcruiser its go-anywhere capabilities are a host of off-road-focused upgrades including a snorkel, 12-spoke off-road wheels, side-mounted LED auxiliary lights, a custom steel front bumper, a roof-mounted full-size spare wheel, and a lifted, fully-adjustable suspension package equipped with Terrain Tamer and Tough Dog components. At the heart of the Azalaï is a 4.2-liter inline-six diesel engine that generates 129hp.
The camper features a lightweight aluminum shell with a pop-up roof, a lounge area, a bunk-style bed, a 170-liter water tank and a 310-liter diesel cell, an Eberspächer diesel heater, an onboard bathroom and shower, as well as a full galley kitchen, an onboard water filtration system, and a 110-liter fridge and freezer. In addition to boasting a passage to the rig’s rear interior, the driver’s cabin also sports a Sparco steering wheel, new heated and cooled Recaro Orthoped seats, and a plethora of camera snd GPS systems. Other noteworthy elements include roof-mounted solar panels, an onboard inverter, a 200Ah Lithium-ion battery setup, and a full-size washing machine.
Currently located and registered in Belgium, Radio Baobab’s 2003 Toyota Landcruiser HZJ 79 Azalaï conversion is available now, with pricing set at 55,000€ (~$59,350). Alongside the vehicle itself, the sale also includes a host of GPS equipment, camp chairs and tables, a recovery kit, and a full spare parts kit.
