Although titanium has been around in the watch world since the 1970s, the past few years have seen a huge influx in the case material — to say the least — thanks to advancements in technology that have made it more practical. Significantly lighter than its stainless steel counterparts, at around half on average, and more resistant to corrosion, titanium has been implemented across entire lines of watches from brands around the industry. And today, Urwerk has unveiled its own new titanium version of its flagship watch, called the UR-100V Magic T.
Titanium’s specific aesthetic fits in with Urwerk’s branding much better than that of other watchmakers. The company has become well-recognized for its futuristic, sci-fi-inspired models and unorthodox designs. And that’s why implementing this monochromatic gray version of titanium to its celestial-themed UR-100 range was a no-brainer. However, this isn’t the brand’s first titanium 100 watch, seeing releases of black titanium and raw titanium variants in the past already. The Magic T, though, comes off as a blank slate thanks to the refined shot-blasting finish, which creates a sense of muted texture that accentuates the model’s minimalism and beauty through reflections of light from different angles.
With the typical 41mm x 49.7mm case size and top-sided crown, the Magic T model, just like every other UR-100, utilizes a wandering hours and satellites complication with a graduated minutes arc, powered by the same caliber 12.02 automatic movement as always. Although this time around, the piece has been designed for increased legibility — especially when compared to the full titanium model from 2021. To do this, Urwerk was meticulous with the color contrasts between each individual component. For nighttime visibility, the hours and minutes were painted in Super-LumiNova.
Adorned with a titanium bracelet as well, the UR-100V Magic T is priced at CHF58,000 (~$65,073) from Urwerk retailers.
