Anyone who’s spent time around the Cocktail Time line knows the formula: a dressy Presage with a dial textured like a piece of barware and named after a drink you’ve probably ordered at least once. It’s a charming gimmick that’s earned its cult following, and we’ll fully admit to being part of it (the Negroni reference lives on my wrist more than it probably should).
But the new SSK049 “Silver Bullet” is the first one in a while that feels like it’s playing at a different level than its siblings.

The Grand Seiko in the Room
Look at the dial and the Grand Seiko comparison writes itself. A silver radial pattern, applied dauphine hands, a thin blue GMT hand cutting across it, blue 24-hour numerals tucked between the indices – this is dangerously close to SBGM221 territory, just executed at a fraction of the price.
That’s not a knock, by the way. The SBGM221 is one of the most quietly admired GMTs in the watch world, and getting within visual striking distance for $625 is quite impressive. The proportions help too. At 40.5mm wide and 47.5mm lug-to-lug, with a 12.8mm thickness that includes a domed Hardlex crystal, this thing should sit beautifully on most wrists.

Cocktail Time, All Grown Up
Most of the Cocktail Time releases of the past lean playful. Pastel dials, sunburst finishes pulled from martini glass references, the kind of watch that makes you smile while you’re wearing it. The Silver Bullet doesn’t really do that. The dial is sharper, more serious, more dressed. The gold seconds hand is the only flourish, and it works as a single warm note against the cool silver and blue.
It also nods to the cocktail it’s named after, which is a no-frills shot of gin, kummel, and lemon juice.

About That Movement
Inside is Seiko’s caliber 4R34 automatic, the GMT-equipped variant of the 4R family, with 41 hours of power reserve and a 21,600 vph beat rate. It’s a reliable, well-proven movement at this price tier.
It’s worth noting that this is a “caller” GMT, not a true traveler’s. For a watch that’s going to spend most of its life behind a dress shirt cuff at dinner, that’s probably fine. For frequent flyers, it’s something to know going in.
