Back in July, DOXA dropped the SUB 300 Ti5 Clive Cussler and we’ll admit, it was a bit of love at first sight for us. A vintage-correct SUB 300 machined from Grade 5 titanium right down to its dual-layer dial, capped at 300 pieces on what would’ve been Cussler’s 95th birthday – it was just speaking our love language through and through.
And while it did read as a one-off tribute during the release, it turns out it was a proof of concept. DOXA just rolled that same titanium construction into its permanent lineup with the new SUB 300 Ti5 collection.
No More Playing Hard to Get
DOXA has historically treated titanium as a special-occasion material, reserved specifically for limited runs that sell out quickly. But the Ti5 collection shows us the brand’s got a new way of thinking.
Better still, at $3,190 this version undercuts the Cussler edition by $200. You do, however, lose the NUMA caseback and the birthday Easter egg, but now you can actually buy one. Seems like a decent trade-off.
Same ’67 Blueprint, Minus the Heft
Dimensionally, nothing changes here from the first drop. The case still measures 42.5mm across, 45mm lug to lug, and 13.4mm tall, wearing that unmistakable tonneau silhouette DOXA established in 1967.
Now the case, screw-down crown, and caseback are all Grade 5 titanium. Hell, even the dial is titanium, built from two superimposed layers with laser-cut openings up top.
The rest is familiar SUB 300 kit. The patented dual-scale bezel tracks US Navy no-decompression limits, a domed glass box sapphire sits up top, and a COSC-certified Sellita SW200-1 ticks inside with 38 hours of reserve.
The Whitepearl Steals the Show
The collection launches in five colorways including Professional orange, Sharkhunter black, Caribbean blue, and Red Coral, which happens to be the only dial of the bunch with a sunburst finish.
Then there’s the Whitepearl, which coats its entire dial in Super-LumiNova. We’ve watched DOXA flirt with full-lume dials through the Topper Great White collabs, but those were limited runs too.
Every Ti5 ships on DOXA’s Dive Flex rubber strap only. Unfortunately, no titanium beads-of-rice bracelet exists yet, and we’re hoping Doxa has something up its sleeve in that department.
