Timex has been mining its archives pretty aggressively lately, bringing back classics from across its decades-spanning catalog. And it’s done it again with a special model from 1972.
Back in the ’70s, while Swiss manufacturers were busy dismissing quartz technology as a passing fad, Timex was already three steps ahead, creating bold, accessible timepieces that prioritized the innovative new movements. The latest Time Machine Reissue is a reminder of the brand’s forward thinking while still showing us how well their styles hold up today.

Simplicity in Design
Based on the original 1972 watch, the reissue comes in a 39mm tonneau-shaped case made of recycled stainless steel that’s either silver- or gold-toned. Better for everyday wear, the former is paired with a deep blue sunray dial while the dress-focused gold option gets a beautiful tiger’s eye dial in brown. Under the period-correct domed acrylic crystal, you’ll see the floating hour markers that give off the impression that they’re hovering above the minute track. The boxiness of the markers and handset complement the round case shape.

Modern Execution, Vintage Soul
This reissue respects the original’s DNA while smartly updating key elements for 2025. The applied hour indices now sit higher above the dial surface, creating more dramatic shadows and improved legibility. Meanwhile, the geometric steel bracelet, which matches the respective case color, flows like liquid metal around your wrist, with each hexagonal link articulating smoothly.
The 39mm case size may have seemed large in 1972 but now aligns perfectly with contemporary preferences. Other features include a 20mm lug width and 50m of water resistance.
