Oris Celebrates 60 Years with Playfully Vintage 1965 Diver

The 1960s was a crucial decade to the legacy and preponderance of the dive watch. I haven’t run the numbers but I’d venture to guess that more ‘60s models get reissued than from any other decade. However, while many of these often-iconic timepieces instantly evoke a certain level of nostalgia with their visual designs, they’re not always able to achieve the boldness that would exclusively pigeonhole them in that time period.

Watch lines evolve, stick around, and don’t always change as much as you’d expect them to in six decades. However, Oris’ 1965 diver simply couldn’t be from any other period. The Swiss brand has now unveiled the 60th Anniversary Edition of one of our favorite dive models ever.

The Same But Different

For the 2025 edition of the Divers Sixty-Five, Oris has looked to not only the original 1965 model but also the 50th-anniversary release from 2015, which sized up the 36mm stainless steel case to a more modern 40mm. Still with 100m of water resistance, that case size is retained here but there have been some updates implemented as well, including a narrower bidirectional bezel but one that looks a bit more like the one on the original 1965 watch, swapping in a lumed dot at the 12 spot for the triangle from the 2015 model.

A Cleaner Look

While the original diver had a date window at the 3 o’clock spot and the 2015 edition had one at the 6, this 60th-anniversary release omits the date window entirely for a cleaner look. Luckily, after making some relatively big adjustments, the watch retains the overall language, including the numeral font, which always reminded me of something found in a tiki lounge.

Sporting the expected glossy black dial, the watch carries over the handset design from 2015, including the tan-colored Old Radium lume and the matching lollipop second hand for a more vintage look. This matches the color of the hour markers well and brings uniformity to the dial that I loved on the 50th-anniversary edition. However, instead of “Automatic” under the Oris logo, the watch says “Waterproof” like it did on the ‘65 references.

Eschewing the in-house Caliber 400 of some of the current Divers Sixty-Fives in their catalog, Oris has given the 60th Anniversary Edition the Sellita-base Oris 733 automatic movement just like it did in 2015, which gives us the hacking seconds function. Lastly, the timepiece comes with both a 3-link rivet-style stainless steel bracelet and a black leather strap.
