Orion Goes Up-Market with an American-Made Dial on the Tesseract

Modern American watchmaking, comparatively speaking, is still in its early stages of development. Of the few brands that are making an attempt at manufacturing watches in the U.S., virtually all of them fall under the category of microbrands. One such brand is Orion, a standout micro out of Pennsylvania that’s just unveiled its most impressive watch to date in the Tesseract.

The Orion Tesseract is a sleek sports watch that features a resplendent and intricate tesseract pattern on its dial. While the Tesseract was popularized by Marvel by being the name of one of the MacGuffin in a handful of MCU films, it’s actually a real-life geometric shape of a four-dimensional cube that’s also known as a hypercube. Orion outdid itself by implementing a hyper-detailed pattern of interlocking cubes into the dial on the namesake watch, with the matte surface of the tesseracts contrasting with the polished surface of the dial to create a splendid harmony of shifting colors and textures.

Orion’s painstaking work on the Tesseract’s dial doesn’t end there. Each dial is polished by hand before receiving CNC milling, the chamfers of its nameplate feature anglage with a satin grain applied to its face, and the typeface on the nameplate is milled and inked by hand. Other noteworthy features of the Tesseract are a stainless steel case construction, 100M water resistance, a crystal sapphire, and a Miyota 9039 caliber movement. And, perhaps most impressively, these intricate dials were manufactured in the good ol’ U.S. of A.

Orion’s Tesseract sports watch comes in three regal colors: Royal Purple, Shaded Gold, and Cerulean Blue. Given the handmade nature of each watch, as well as the excruciating time and detail that went into each piece, the Tesseract is limited to just 19 units. Those interested in this fine example of American horological design can purchase one on Orion’s website from $3,966.
