Famously worn by Buzz Aldrin on the 1969 Apollo XI mission to the moon, the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch is unequivocally one of the most iconic watches on the planet. In March of last year, Omega shocked the horological world when it debuted the Omega x Swatch Moonswatch collection — a range of Bioceramic-cased Speedmaster Moonwatch replicas sold at a remarkably accessible price. And after eventually becoming the single most hyped watch release of the year, Omega and Swatch have now opted to deliver a new addition to the collection with the Mission To Moonshine Bioceramic Moonswatch.
Following in the footsteps of gold construction Speedie models like the Speedmaster Apollo 11 Anniversary Limited Edition, the Mission To Moonshine Moonswatch is expected to boast a gold-finished case and dial. Based on the existence of the Moonshine Gold Speedmaster that was unveiled last year at Omega Days 2022, there’s a very decent likelihood that the new Moonswatch will sport a gold case, a gold band, a gold caseback, and gold pushers, all juxtaposed by a black bezel, a black hand-set, and a trio of black sub dials.
The initial release included the Mission To Sun Moonswatch, which sports a gold-colored case contrasted via a host of white elements — items that we imagine will be blacked-out on the Moonshine model. It also remains to be seen if the new model, like the Mission To Sun watch, will simply feature a gold-colored Bioceramic case, or if the case will actually be crafted from genuine gold. This latter path will undoubtedly result in a markedly higher MSRP than the existing Moonswatch range’s $260 price, though will still be a fraction of the Moonshine Gold Speedmaster’s roughly $28,000 MSRP.
Slated for a release tomorrow, the Omega x Swatch Mission To Moonshine Moonswatch will be available at four locations; Paradeplatz in Zurich, Switzerland, the Tokyo Stock Exchange in Tokyo, Japan, Piazza Affari in Milan, Italy, and The Royal Exchange in London, England.
