Omega Revamps the ’57 Speedmaster & Adds New Gold Moonwatches

Omega has been busy this week during its “Omega Days” celebration, unveiling a slew of new models for 2022. And while the 6,000m-rated Planet Ocean Ultra Deep diver certainly got a good chunk of attention, it wouldn’t be an Omega event without some Speedmaster news. And boy did we get some. The Biel/Bienne brand unveiled a complete revamp of the Speedmaster ’57 while also introducing a new type of gold (and a new dial color) to the Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional line.

First, we have the updated ‘57, the brand’s most retro iteration of the Speedy that’s modeled after the very first Speedmaster chronograph from 1957. The 2022 iteration receives a new METAS-certified movement in the form of the manual-winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9906 movement that thins out its profile considerably, with the 40.5mm stainless steel case now measuring just 12.99mm thick. There’s a vintage-looking black sandwich dial option or three colorful PVD dials that come in either green, blue, or burgundy. All are available on a steel bracelet or a matching colored leather strap.

At a mere .59mm thicker than the ‘57 is the 18K Moonshine Gold, a new take on the iconic Moonwatch model. The watch features a case and bracelet crafted from Omega’s exclusive 18K Moonshine Gold, a unique alloy that boasts a paler yellow gold color that’s inspired by the light of the moon. There are two Moonshine Gold Speedmaster variants: one with a Moonshine Gold dial with a black ceramic bezel top ring, and another with a PVD green dial and matching green ceramic bezel insert. Both are available on either a polished and brushed 18K Moonshine Gold bracelet or an integrated rubber strap with an interesting lunar surface texture on the underside.

Both the new ‘57 and the Moonshine Gold Speedmasters would make for worthy additions to any watch collection. All of the new timepieces are available now from Omega boutiques, starting from $8,300.
