Beginning with the primitive yet rugged trench watches in the First World War, timepieces have been a military gear staple for over a century. In addition to providing standard-issue watches for a great many fighting forces and militaries all over the world, quite a few horological outfits also produce special edition references that honor particular branches of service. And while we’ve seen this treatment given for countless armies, navies, and special forces units, there’s thus far never been a watch created for the United States’ fledgling Space Force branch. Until now that is, as MICROMILSPEC has unveiled its official United States Space Force Timepiece in collaboration with the USSF.
Made in Switerzerland, the USSF watch is constructed around an octagonally-shaped 42mm brushed stainless steel case that’s fitted with a screw-down crown and a uni-directional rotating bezel with a minute scale. Water resistant down to 100 meters, the case also boasts an exhibition case back. MICROMILSPEC has paired the case with a matching brushed steel H-link bracelet, though is also offering the watch with rubber and suede strap options. The watch is kept ticking by an automatic 26-jewel Sellita movement that’s on display via the watch’s exhibition caseback.
Encompassed by a dial ring that’s been laser-engraved with the U.S. Space Force’s official motto “Semper Supra” (Latin for “Always Above”), the watch’s matte black dial sports a “Stars and Orbits” pattern inspired by various USSF unit emblems. Decorated with the Space Force Delta, the dial also features a date window at 3 o’clock, lume-filled indices, and a custom lume-painted hand-set with a shape that was inspired by the plume from a rocket’s tail upon launching. MICROMILSPEC will also be producing two different versions of the USSF timepiece, a bare brushed steel civilian version, and a fully blacked-out USSF personnel variant.
The Civilian version of the MICROMILSPEC United States Space Force Timepiece is available for preorder now exclusively to US residents, while the employee version can only be purchased by USSF personnel. Scheduled to ship in Q4 of 2023, both watches have been priced $1,500 (including tax and shipping).
