Longines Made a Titanium Version of Its Spirit Zulu Time GMT Watch

Back in 2022, when the Spirit Zulu Time first debuted, Longines not only tapped into its strong history of making aviation watches but also made a quintessential version of what a modern GMT watch should be. It came in a 42mm stainless steel case, which was just about the only complaint you could make; the large-for-a-pilot-watch was (and is) also quite heavy. But all that quickly changed with the release of both 39mm and 37mm versions — the latter of which ditched the rotating bezel for a dressier look.

Today, the Swiss watchmaker has made its flagship GMT even lighter with a new titanium version of the 39mm Spirit Zulu Time. Let’s take a look…

Throwing grade 5 titanium into the mix, Longines has made its 39mm GMT even lighter. Titanium is around 40% lighter than its stainless steel counterparts so this travel watch becomes even easier to wear on long trips or days at the office.

Aside from its material makeup, the new watch is virtually the same as its non-titanium version, including its emphasis on comfort with its ergonomically constructed case. Powered by the same in-house L844.4 automatic movement with 72 hours of power reserve behind a closed caseback, this is a “true” GMT, which means that its hour hand can be set independently without disturbing the timekeeping or second time zone function.

Curiously, the titanium version has only been made available in this black dial edition so far. Although, it looks really classy, paired with a black ceramic bezel and gold accents. It also comes with a three-link titanium bracelet with a double-security folding clasp (there’s no leather strap option for this yet).

There’s Also A Chronograph

On top of the titanium version of the standard Spirit Zulu Time, Longines has now also added the Flyback Chronograph to the Spirit range, available in brown or forest green. While the new titanium Spirit Zulu Time is decidedly modern, these two pieces fit Longines’ ties with history with vintage aesthetics. Longines made the first-ever flyback chronograph in 1925 so this is a fitting addition.

Each of these new pieces has shaded dial coloring, matching bezels with gold framing, and 18K gold pushers and crowns (pink gold for the brown and yellow gold for the green).

Sporting 42mm stainless steel, these watches are powered by the L791 automatic chronograph movement, which can be viewed through the casebacks. Along with stainless steel bracelet options, you also have the choice of matching vintage-style leather straps.
