Born in the 1950s, the IWC Ingenieur line is one of the most distinct watch families in the game. Evolving from an anti-magnetic engineer’s watch to an integrated bracelet sports watch in the ’70s after being rewritten by Gérald Genta. That latter iteration was revived in 2023 with a 40mm, later bringing a larger 42mm version into the fray soon after.
Last year, the Ingenieur got its first-ever ceramic version with an all-black colorway, retaining the spirit of the Genta original while bringing a whole new vibe to the timepiece. Now, the ceramic Ingenieur is back again, looking better than ever in a deep, dark green.

IWC’s Ceramic Pedigree
IWC introduced its first ceramic-cased wristwatch all the way back in 1986, and has spent the four decades since building out serious expertise with the stuff. Zirconium oxide ceramic sits around 1300 on the Vickers hardness scale, which puts it among the hardest materials on earth. It’s not only scratch-resistant but also, working with it at that level of precision is pretty difficult. Parts shrink by roughly a third during sintering, which means the engineering has to account for that before a single component is finished. Getting a uniform color across an entire case and bracelet when the shade only stabilizes during that sintering process is a real technical feat.

Green Done Right
The dark olive green hits differently from the all-black of last year. Black ceramic is a bit more aggressive and sporty, but this is something richer and arguably dressier. IWC carries that forward by pairing it with 18-carat 5N rose gold on the crown and 18-carat Armor Gold on the bezel screws, the latter being a proprietary alloy with notably higher hardness than conventional gold. Those warm accents against the deep green are a nice contrast that elevates the whole timepiece. The matching green “Grid” dial carries over Genta’s original texture-forward design language, finished in semimatte. Gold-plated hands and applied indices are filled with Super-LumiNova for legibility.

At 42mm wide and 11.5mm thick, the case features a multi-part ceramic build with a thin internal titanium ring that secures the movement and holds the functional screws from front and back.

Inside the Case
Powering everything is the in-house Calibre 82110, a bidirectional automatic using IWC’s Pellaton winding system, a design that dates back to Technical Director Albert Pellaton’s work in the 1950s. The winding components most vulnerable to stress are themselves made from zirconium oxide ceramic. The movement runs at 28,800 vph with a 60-hour power reserve, and the Geneva stripe decoration is visible through the sapphire display caseback.
