In a world obsessed with brand collaborations, the collision of watches and rides just seems to make the most sense, and even sorta predates this current heyday we’re living in now. Drivers and race teams have been sponsored by watchmakers long before even athletes and footwear came together on a high profile. After all, watches are one of the few third-party, non-race-specific items you can reasonably wear behind the wheel. Swiss watchmaker H. Moser and Alpine Motorsports are the latest in such partnerships, with their most recent release of the pink Streamliner coming just in time for the Miami Grand Prix this week.
The Partnership So Far
Earlier this year, the two brands announced they were teaming up. And last month, we saw the collab yield its inaugural piece, with H. Moser adding its famed cylindrical tourbillon to its recently skeletonized Streamliner Tourbillon and adding a subdial and strap in blue — the official color of Alpine Motorsports. Limited to just 100 pieces, the watch was a fun new expansion of the already-new openworked model but wasn’t released in anticipation of any significant event. On the other hand, this new Miami Grand Prix edition, which is limited to just 20 units, takes after the pink livery on the BWT Alpine F1 Team vehicles riding in this year’s competition.
The A524 Formula 1 Vehicles
For 2024, BWT Alpine has two liveries competing for the 2024 Formula 1 season, both are Renault A524 models built by the Alpine F1 Team with exterior designs developed by artist Felipe Pantone. Similar to the Streamliner from last month, the first is black with blue accents and will compete in 16 of the 24 races, while the pink car, which the current Streamliner takes after, will race in the remaining 8 races. During the Miami Grand Prix event on May 5, driver Pierre Gasly finished in 12th while his teammate Esteban Ocon took 10th.
Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine Pink Livery Basics
As for the watch, it features the same basic specs as the blue version from a few weeks ago. Housed in the 42.3mm stainless steel case, the Streamliner is powered by an in-house HMC 811 automatic tourbillon movement, visible through the skeletonized dial as well as the exposition caseback. The hour and minute subdial is featured on the top portion of the face, with a translucent pink dial made of synthetic corundum material, through which you can still see the movement. The bottom of the watch features the tourbillon with the cylindrical balance spring. Impressively, these are shaped by hand and take ten times longer to make than your average hairspring.
If you include the domed sapphire crystal, this watch is 14mm thick (11mm without it). While the indices are coated in Super-LumiNova lume, the two hands — both outlined in blue — are filled with Globolight inserts. That same blue color is featured on the bridge of the tourbillon. For more of the pink colorway, head to the molded rubber strap that perfectly matches the aerodynamic profile of the watch face.
