When looking back years from now, 2023 will be known as the Year of A.I. While artificial intelligence has been the talk of nearly every industry, Casio has utilized the technology for good. The Japanese brand’s G-SHOCK label “collaborated” with A.I. on a one-of-one timepiece that will be auctioned off for charity this weekend.

Five years ago, for G-SHOCK’s 35th anniversary, it debuted its Dream Project. Limited to just 35 pieces, the 5000 model featured an 18k yellow gold case, bezel, and bracelet, and cost a staggering $70,000 (no robots were involved in its design). Now, to conclude its 40th-anniversary year, the watchmaker figured it would best its previous release with Dream Project #2. Going back to the 18k yellow gold material, the new GD-001 features a skeletonized analog display, which reveals the solar quartz movement. For the development of its case, G-SHOCK tasked both humans and generative artificial intelligence to come up with its design. A custom A.I. system was given 40 years of data from the brand to generate a 3D model that optimizes strength, material characteristics, and processing methods.

As for the watch itself, its specs will be rather familiar to G-SHOCk enthusiasts. With 200m of water resistance, the timepiece also features Multi-Band 6 radio timekeeping, dual time, stopwatch functionality, a date display, and an LED light that can be turned on for better low-light visibility. It comes inside an exclusive display case with a beautiful front panel that slides upwards.

If the GD-001 exceeds the lower part of its estimate (which ranges from $70,000 to $140,000), it will be the most expensive G-SHOCK ever sold. If you’re interested in bidding, head over to Phillips Auction House, where the auction will be held on December 9 and 10 in New York.
