Only about a decade old, British microbrand Farer has gained recognition in the watch community for its beautiful color schemes and simple yet effective styling. Returning this month after two years out of production is the Bezel collection, led by the third-gen version of the beloved Maze GMT, with some crucial changes.

Just in Case
While Farer has chosen to retain most of what made the previous Maze so special, it’s revamped the case for a more accessible, wearable GMT watch. This means ditching the turtle-shaped case for a rounder one that makes more sense considering how much attention the bezel will draw; you don’t want to detract from this feature at all. Likewise, the lugs have also been curved a bit on the outer edges for a contoured look that frames the bezel much nicer.
Along with the shape, the stainless steel case has also been dropped from 41mm to 40mm in diameter, which in turn brings the thickness to 10.75mm and lug-to-lug to 44.8mm. The boxy sapphire crystal makes a return but does add an extra 1.75mm to the top of the case.

What’s Stayed the Same?
The rest of the Maze (for the most part), carries the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality. The tiled dial pattern, which has become a hallmark of the model, is presented here in pearlescent white, paired with light blue hour markers and hands that glow with Super-LumiNova X1.
Around the outside of the dial is the 24-hour black-and-white GMT bezel with a sapphire insert (the first-gen version had an aluminum insert), splitting daytime and nighttime. While the rest of the watch glows blue at night, the red GMT hand has a white-glowing arrow tip for delineation.
Visible through the exhibition caseback is the Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement, a “top grade” version of this caliber, which has been adjusted to accuracy in 5 positions. Lastly, the Maze III gets several strap options, including 10 different leather options, 4 rubber options, and even a stainless steel bracelet.

The Rest of the Bezel Collection
While the Maze III highlights the series, the rest of the Bezel collection is notable too, including the Maze Blue, which swaps the tile pattern on the dial for a honeycomb one and drops the case size down to 38mm, among other things. Similar in look and size is the Charlton Green, which is arguably the best of the new watches in terms of color with its uniquely striped hour markers. There’s also the Crooms III, a maroon-dial GMT with a more simplified black bezel but a decidedly busier dial.
