Since the Swiss Army first commissioned DOXA over 50 years ago to aid their divers, thus giving birth to the DOXA Army watch, the brand has been known for its focus on utility as well as class. The DOXA Army was among the very first watches to use a coating process that blackened the stainless steel case through oxidation in order to prevent glare, and now the Swiss watchmaker is reissuing the cult-favorite watch using modern materials and technology.
DOXA and retailer Watches of Switzerland have teamed up to reissue the watch in the form of the DOXA Army Watches Of Switzerland Edition. Water-resistant up to 300m, the new limited edition DOXA Army timepiece sports a matte black ceramic case — upping the scratch-resistance while mimicking the look of the matte black oxidized steel case of the original — with a threaded titanium case back. Circumferencing the dial is a unidirectional rotating bezel, which — along with the screw-down crown — is also in ceramic. Housed inside the 42.5mm watch is a Sellita SW200-1 COSC-certified automatic chronometer movement with a power reserve of 38 hours.
The beige dial features a date window at the 3 o’clock position and hands for the hours, minutes, and seconds. The use of orange — a DOXA hallmark — hands is not just for aesthetics but to aid visibility underwater as well. Furthermore, the hour and minute hands, along with the digits on the bezel, are coated with Super-LumiNova for further low-light visibility.
Each watch comes in a special camouflaged zipper pouch, which holds the watch along with a secondary NATO strap in a camouflage pattern that can be swapped with the piece’s fitted black FKM rubber strap.The DOXA Army Watches Of Switzerland Edition dive watch is limited to just 100 pieces and can be purchased on the Watches of Switzerland online store for $4,500.
