When discussing the greatest film franchises of all time, Godzilla always seems to be left out of the conversation. First debuting on the big screen in the 1954 original by Ishirō Honda, the fire-breathing kaiju has been featured in nearly 40 movies and counting (not all of which are connected), with its most recent, Godzilla Minus One, becoming one of the most well-received projects of 2023. To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the King of the Monsters, Citizen is debuting two limited-edition versions of its Promaster dive watch.

Celebrating an anniversary in its own right, the Japanese watchmaker’s Promaster was launched in 1989 and has since become a staple of the dive watch space. And befitting the new release, the Professional Diver 300m has long been dubbed the Ecozilla for its massive 48.2mm case diameter and 18.5mm thickness, which gets retained for this special release. Featuring a laser-applied camouflage pattern on the dial — in either black or red — which evokes the lizard’s scales, the new stainless steel timepiece also sports the camo pattern on its bezel, features a tiny Godzilla footprint on the caseback, and comes with a matching travel box. It’s also paired with a polyurethane strap.

Inside, the 300m watch is powered by Citizen’s groundbreaking Eco-Drive tech in the form of the Caliber B873 automatic. As opposed to standard solar-powered movements which are charged by the power of the sun, the Eco-Drive system can run with the help of literally any form of light, allowing it to keep ticking forever essentially. Considering its size and chunky aesthetic, the Promaster Ecozilla divers have never been for everyone but the additional nods to Godzilla here make this a bit more accessible.

Limited to 3,000 in red or 2,500 in black, the Godzilla x Promaster Dive 35th Anniversary is priced at $900 from Citizen’s website.
