This year marks Breitling’s 140th anniversary and, as such, we’ve already gotten some impressive releases like the titanium version of the Chronomat B01 and a slew of new Navitimer models, including the return of the Cosmonaute. Now, the Swiss legend is back with a new Super Diver version of its iconic Superocean Automatic 46.

Some History of the Superocean Diver

Largely known for its aforementioned Navitimer and Chronomat chronograph models, Breitling made sure that fans remembered its luxury diver when it revamped the Superocean back in 2022. While the original Superocean debuted in 1957, Breitling based this new model on the Superocean Slow Motion from the 1960s, which became iconic during an era when recreational diving was truly booming. Along with its inspired styling cues, the brand eliminated the progenitor’s chronograph function, making it a three-hand automatic, while adding modern features such as a new ceramic bezel insert, 300m of water resistance, and a new movement. However, with the new Super Diver version, Breitling has made its most purpose-built dive watch yet.

Breitling Superocean Automatic 46 Super Diver Basics

Breitling may be burying the lede behind a pair of camo print dials — in either green or blue — but this new release also introduces a titanium case to the mix, along with an increased water resistance to a whopping 1,000m. Like the standard stainless steel Superocean Automatic 46, this Super Diver edition features a 46mm case diameter but the effects of the upgrades come in the decreased weight, from around 7.55oz to 5.1oz for the bracelet versions (the watch heads alone drop down 1oz), and an increased thickness of 1.3mm to help house an internal soft-iron shield that increases anti-magnetism.

Along with the colored camo dials, each watch features either a green or black ceramic bezel, which is bi-directional and can be locked into place via a patented locking system next to the 9 o’clock spot. Also powered by the in-house ETA-based Caliber 10 automatic movement watches with COSC certification, the watches come in titanium bracelets but matching color rubber straps are available as well. In a unique move, the lume seems to be a different color depending on which dial color you get. It’s placed all around the minute dial and on the hands and hour markers.
