If you think it’s counterintuitive to pay over $100K for a luxury watch only to have it changed exactly to your liking, then you’re probably not in the position to do so anyway. Artisans de Geneve is the world leader in custom Rolexes, commissioned by everyone from Spike Lee to Frank Abignale to have their timepieces tailor-made or refurbished to exact specifications. Now, they’ve taken a gold Daytona Ref. 116508 from Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and given it the neon green treatment.

Some would find it sacrilege to decorate any watch from the Swiss icon in any garishness but once you’ve seen the end result, it’s difficult to argue against the vision. Appropriately dubbed “Neon,” the Daytona custom project was executed in close collaboration by the musician, who simply wanted a Rolex that could entirely glow in the dark. With a new lume color developed by Billight, the entire white dial — made from a single block of natural sapphire — and bakelite bezel of the chronograph have been coated to appear neon green when the lights are off. As part of the 12 total green reference points on the dial, the hands on each of the three subdials appear green in daylight, as does the tip of the second hand. Glowing as well, the two large sticks for the hour and minute are given Super-LumiNova coating.

Being a horological fanatic himself, Levine also had some instructions for the caliber 4130 movement inside the watch as well. The bridges were cut, sandblasted, polished, and finished in anthracite, while the wheels were satin-finished and coated with rose gold galvanic treatment. Uniquely, the chrono movement can be viewed in part through the skeletonized subdials.

Like nearly all of the custom shop’s timepieces, the Neon Rolex Daytona is one of a kind, but can be viewed on Artisans de Geneve’s website.
