The worlds of top-shelf liquor and high-end cars collide more often than you would think. Earlier this year, we saw the spectacular collaboration between Bowmore and Aston Martin for the ARC-52 Scotch presented in a curvaceous decanter. And now, British whisky-making and automobilia come together once more as the Macallan and Bentley offer up the first dose of their new collaboration.
The two prestigious brands announced their partnership last summer, guided by a mutual drive toward carbon neutrality — which the Macallan is aiming to achieve by 2030, while Bentley looks to have a full fleet of fully-electric vehicles by 2025. Now, their first entry on the spirits front is a limited-edition single malt called Horizon. Aside from housing a complex new expression (about which we haven’t received much information yet) with the Macallan’s Master Whisky Maker Kirsteen Campbell at the helm, the Scotch’s innovative 180-degree twisted bottle has been crafted to lie sideways, with no base equipped whatsoever.
Likewise, the entire process has been done by using six upcycled materials — a nod to the Macallan’s foundational Six Pillars. For the bottle itself, the brands have utilized recycled copper from the Curiously Small Stills that were no longer in use by the distillery, recovered aluminum from the automaker’s manufacturing, recycled wood, and recycled glass and carbon neutral leather that were used in the new Bentley Mulliner GT.
Fans will have to wait until next summer to see the Horizon single malt come to fruition, but it’s only the beginning for the Macallan and Bentley, whose collaboration will be one to watch in the coming years.
