Perhaps one of the most unlikely candidates to attempt this grand feat is Scotch whisky giant The Macallan, and yet the distillery has dedicated a lot of thought and time into crafting an exclusive bottle of single malt as part of its Distil Your World series, which explores the gastronomy of different cultural meccas throughout the world.
Following Scotland, Jerez, and London, Distil Your World New York Edition attempts to bottle — quite literally — the culture of New York City as displayed through music, art, architecture, and food. Drawing inspiration from legendary jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, Guggenheim curator Megan Fontanella, street artist Lady Pink, and sneaker historian Dee Wells, among others, The Macallan whisky maker Polly Logan, along with Michelin-star chef Joan Roca, has immersed herself into this iconic locale to infuse into the brand’s latest Scotch a profile that evokes New York City. While Roca curated a menu from their experience, Logan handled the crafting of the whisky.
Echoing the kinetic energy of the city, aromas of apple, peanut brittle, and milk chocolate grace the nose, while the palate experiences complex notes of baked apple, raisin, chocolate-covered nuts, maple syrup, waffles, and pecans, all with a sweet oak finish. The mineral notes resemble the sun-soaked pavements and the orange color of the liquid is made to reflect the tan sunrise each morning throughout Manhattan.
More than anything, Distil Your World New York Edition is a celebration of New York and a recognition of the city’s unmatched uniqueness. At 49.5% ABV, The Macallan’s limited-edition Scotch whisky is limited to 1,000 bottles and comes in an exquisite white textured carrying case. It will be available from The Macallan Boutiques and premium retailers around the globe this month starting at $4,200.
