Even prior to the rapid resurgence of gin over the past couple of decades, some brands have remained tried and true to their craft regardless. One such distillery is London’s own Beefeater, a barroom staple for nearly 150 years and a label synonymous with the London dry style.
In 1993, Beefeater launched its ultra-premium Crown Jewel, which took the recipe from the brand’s signature gin, which features 9 botanicals, and added a tenth: grapefruit. Bottled at 100 proof, the spirit is named after the Tower of London’s invaluable jewelry collection, which the brand’s namesake guards are tasked with protecting. Highly popular throughout its decade-and-a-half run, the expression was discontinued in 2009, inspiring and giving way to the brand’s new premium Beefeater 24 gin. Since then, fans have been clamoring for Crown Jewel to make its triumphant return, only to get sporadic limited releases over the years.
Now, Beefeater has announced it’s adding Crown Jewel back into its lineup permanently. This year already, the gin has been taking home awards from some of the most prestigious spirits competitions across the globe. The bottle will also get a design more congruent with the iconic brick-shaped bottles of your standard Beefeater gin.
Look for Beefeater Crown Jewel at liquor retailers such as the Whiskey Exchange where it’s expected to sell for around $57.
