Elon Musk’s Oak-Aged Tesla Tequila Is An April Fool’s Joke Brought To Life

Back in 2018, Elon Musk hinted at his supposed side project “Teslaquila.” At the time it was merely seen as an April Fools joke in response to rumors surrounding Tesla’s imminent bankruptcy. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned about the ambitious entrepreneur in all of his many ventures — it’s that he follows through on his word.

Sure enough, Musk has made Tesla Tequila a reality. And although everyone doubted the legitimacy of his product, it sold out within minutes of launch (even with the two-bottle order limit). Distilled by California-based Nosotros Tequila, it’s made from 100% de agave tequila añejo and aged in French oak barrels for four months. The result is a crisp tequila featuring a nose of dry fruit and light vanilla that has a finish with notes of cinnamon pepper. Clocking in at a reasonable 40%, it’s no hard hitter, but it should make for a drink that’s plenty smooth. Only time will tell if there will be more of these lightning-shaped libations.
