Technics is unequivocally one of the most trusted brands in the DJ and pro audio realm, first releasing its now-legendary SL1200 turntable in 1972 to have the direct-drive model go on to set the standard amongst professionals in the industry — a status the SL has retained ever since. And with the Osaka outfit now celebrating its 55th year in the business, Technics is marking the occasion via a limited run of special 55th Anniversary Edition SL-1210GAE turntables.
Essentially an up-specced, blacked-out version of Technics’ SL-1200G, the new 55th Anniversary model features a 10mm, three-layer-constructed top panel adorned in a black anodized finish — a treatment also bestowed upon the 55th Anniversary model’s tonearm and operation buttons. Powered by a coreless, twin-rotor construction direct-drive motor that utilizes control technology that was initially developed for Blu-ray devices, the SL-1210GAE also boasts upgraded aGEL zinc insulation, a brass-top platter, brass-milled and gold-plated terminals, and an upgraded cartridge specially-tuned by Nagaoka MM. Made by hand in Japan and limited to 1,000 units worldwide, the Technics SL-1210GAE 55th Anniversary Limited Edition Turntable is priced at approximately $4,930, with units slated to go on sale in June.
