Ever since JBL rebooted its Quadrex-grilled L100 back in 2018, the Classic Series has scratched a very specific itch. It’s essentially golden-era American hi-fi looks but updated with thoroughly modern internals. The catch? The lineup has always been anchored by bookshelf-sized monitors (which we personally own and absolutely love), but it’s left fans of truly big vintage JBL sound waiting on the sidelines. That wait is officially over, because the brand just crowned the range with its first proper flagship floorstander, the JBL L150 Classic.

Bigger Than Its 1979 Namesake
For the record, the L150 name here isn’t new at all. JBL ran the original L150 from 1979 to 1981, a walnut tower that paired a 12-inch woofer with a 12-inch passive radiator. It really gave L100 owners something taller to lust after.
Here’s the twist, though. The new L150 Classic doesn’t just revive the badge, it actually outguns the original. JBL swapped out that 12-inch setup for a true 15-inch woofer. The result is a 114.6-pound (each!) monolith standing nearly 37 inches tall.

Pro-Grade Muscle Under the Walnut
That 15-inch Pure Pulp woofer rides in a cast frame and uses JBL’s Differential Drive motor, a dual voice coil architecture pulled from the brand’s pro audio playbook. It digs down to an absurd 33 Hz, or 30.5 Hz if you nudge the bass control to +2dB.

Above it sits a 6.5-inch polymer-coated pulp midrange and a 28mm titanium dome tweeter mated to an acoustic lens and waveguide, with crossovers at 310 Hz and 1.8 kHz. Feed the 88dB-sensitive, 4-ohm design anywhere from 25 to 250 watts and it’ll happily pressurize the room.

Knobs You’ll Actually Touch
Visually, it’s all there. It’s covered in natural walnut veneer, a magnetically attached black Quadrex foam grille (beautifully period-correct, we might add), and a sloped front baffle that angles the drivers up toward your ears like the stand-tilted monitors of yesteryear we love so much.
Our favorite detail is the pair of precision-stepped HF and LF attenuators on the front panel, letting you voice the speaker to your room without ever touching an app. Around back, dual sets of gold-plated binding posts handle bi-wiring or bi-amping for those who like to overdo it (respectfully).
