Owned by the Panasonic Corporation, Technics (pronounced “techniques”) is a Japanese pro audio brand first established in 1965. In 1972, the company would revolutionize the Dj industry with the release of its SL-1200 turntable — a game changing direct-drive model that’s represented the industry standard ever since. So when Automobili Lamborghini recently decided to release a Lambo-branded turntable, the choice to link up with Technics was an obvious one.
And after months of development, the pair has now officially unveiled the Technics for Automobili Lamborghini SL-1200M7B Direct Drive Turntable System.
The Basics
The Technics for Automobili Lamborghini SL-1200M7B is based on the Japanese brand’s existing SL-1200MK7/SL-1210MK7 turntable models. As such, the SL-1200M7B is a high-end, DJ-grade model that features a cordless direct drive, full-torque motor, 33, 45, and 72RPM modes, a reverse function, a high-rigidity cabinet, and a two-layer platter lecture. Like regular Technics SL1200 models, the 1200M7B comes with an included dust cover and a high-sensitivity tonearm.
The Lamborghini Influence
The SL-1200M7B boasts a myriad of unique nods to Lamborghini’s iconic design language and vehicles. For starters, the SL-1200M7B is offered in orange, green, or yellow color options — mirroring Lamborghini’s most iconic car liveries. The exotic automaker’s signature Y-shaped pattern is also present. Just below the turntable’s pitch control slider is a Lamborghini script logo set on a carbon fiber inlay. What’s more, each turntable also features a custom slip mat decorated in a classic Lamborghini logo.
Included Extras
Alongside the SL-1200M7B turntable itself, Lamborghini and Technics’ new collaboration also features a few additional goodies. This includes a special 12” vinyl record containing recordings of half-a-dozen engine and exhaust notes from some of Lambo’s most iconic V12 engines; 400GT 2+2; the Miura SV; the 25th Anniversary Countach; the Diablo 6.0 SE; the Murciélago LP 640; and the Revuelto. Dubbed “The Legends Keep Spinning,” the record also features an image of a Lamborghini Revuelto wheel that spins as the record is played. Additionally, the SL-1200M7B also ships with several co-branded Lamborghini x Technics stickers.
Auto Meets Audio
Though a joint effort between a Japanese pro audio brand and an ultra-elite Italian automaker may seem pretty out of left field, the reality is that the two companies actually have a decent amount in common. More importantly, they both operate under similar philosophies, with both brands constantly striving to push the technological envelop in their respective spaces. Both Technics and Lamborghini are also largely characterized by their unwavering commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and performance.
