While Apple fanatics are enamored with the geniuses’ latest slew of gadgets, an archival piece of the manufacturer’s history is currently up for grabs. Bonhams is auctioning the pictured Macintosh SE owned by the late Steve Jobs.
Following the Apple co-founder’s decade-long resignation in 1985, he founded NeXT Computers. The latter’s products primarily aimed to assist workplaces and higher education, but its innovative technology ultimately pioneered other concepts, including the first-ever online food delivery system. Regardless, Jobs could have operated any computer through NeXT’s startup phase but decided to use what he knew best: the all-in-one Macintosh SE.
The model hails from late 1987 and comes with the original keyboard, mouse, and 20MB internal hard drive — luckily, though, it’s equipped with an additional hard drive in case you need more megs. Moreover, this particular computer’s hard drive is full of notes detailing Jobs’s weekly tasks, recruiting plans, and travel schedule, highlighted by a missed meeting with Charles, Prince of Wales (now King Charles III). The auction house also has reason to believe that Lisa Brennan-Jobs, his daughter, also used it in the office, as the InterMail system is registered under her name.
Jobs gave the Macintosh to its current owner and seller, a former NeXT employee. Bonhams’ lot starts from $200,000 and will be closed on October 25.
