When it comes to foldable smartphones, Samsung kinda owns the game with its Galaxy Fold series, not only benefiting from a broad user base but reliable performance, industry-leading AMOLED displays, and all-around user-friendliness. This is certainly the case for the Fold. What was once deemed as a novelty several years ago is now considered a premium device, with prices reaching upwards of $1,500.
Samsung announced its first tri-fold model a couple of months ago and we couldn’t wait for it to drop. However, the nearly-$3,000 price tag is one thing we weren’t expecting.

Rewriting The Rulebook on Portability
The Galaxy Z TriFold does the impossible by packing true tablet functionality into a device that fits in your pocket. At just 3.9mm at its thinnest point, it’s thinner than most standard phones, yet unfolds twice to reveal a massive 10-inch display. Samsung’s been tinkering with foldables for about a decade now, which shows in how they’ve refined the dual-hinge system here. The two different-sized hinges — each with a dual-rail structure protected by titanium housing — work in harmony to create minimal gaps when folded.

The company’s essentially restructured everything to make this work. There’s a shock-absorbing display layer with a reinforced overcoat for the screen, Advanced Armor Aluminum for the frame, and a ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced polymer on the back panel. Each unit passes through strict quality checks, including CT scans of the flexible circuit board and laser verification of component placement. Samsung says the main display survived their 200,000-cycle multi-folding test, which translates to roughly 100 folds per day for five years.

Power Meets Productivity
Inside is Qualcomm’s customized Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The triple-panel design houses a 5,600mAh three-cell battery system, which is the biggest Samsung’s ever put in a foldable. Around back, there’s a 200MP main camera flanked by a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP 3x telephoto.
But the real appeal here is the screen real estate. Samsung’s built in standalone DeX mode, which means you can run up to four workspaces that each handle five apps simultaneously — all without needing an external monitor. Galaxy AI features like Generative Edit and Sketch to Image scale impressively on the larger canvas, and Gemini Live brings multimodal AI to better understand visual context.
