LEGO’s Technic series has been around since the late ‘70s and has inspired countless builds and collections. The series is defined by intricate builds with interconnected parts and advanced technical features that set them apart from traditional builds. Today, the Technic series is still an innovative collection that continues to push the boundaries, which was made clear by the 626,000-piece life-size build of the Peugeot 9×8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar the LEGO Group made this past June. And this new LEGO Technic Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 that’s been announced is shaping up to be another monster build (though not quite 600k pieces). It’s a recreation of one of the world’s most powerful cranes with tons of realistic functions, and it can be controlled via smartphone.
Coming in at 39 inches tall, 43 inches long, and 11 inches wide, this 2,883-piece set is one of the largest LEGO Technic builds, and it’s a pretty faithful recreation of the LR 1300 crane. It has moving tank treads, an upper structure that can rotate 360 degrees, and a boom arm with a pulley system that controls the hook. The set has two smart hubs and six large motors to power the crane, which requires 12x LR AA batteries to function (not included in the set).
Utilizing the LEGO CONTROL+ app, you can move the build like a real crane, with lifelike features such as tank steering, a winch, and load sensing. You can also see vehicle stats, digital building instructions, and complete challenges through the app, so the fun doesn’t stop after the set is built. LEGO has also put this set through multiple quality and safety tests to meet global standards.
The LEGO Technic Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 is currently available for pre-order, priced at $699. The set starts shipping and releases publicly on August 1st.
